People blame others for mistakes because of the way they feel

Did you know that human error is the leading cause of car accidents? People make mistakes on the road. They do it all the time. They cause accidents that lead to property damage, minor injuries, serious injuries, disabilities and even death. Every year, tens of thousands of people lose their lives. Many more suffer injuries. It's startling to think about.

However, if you ask people about their own driving, many of them will tell you that they are actually very good drivers. It's everyone else who makes mistakes. Even if someone just caused a crash, they'll often try to blame the other party. Why does it happen?

There's something to be said about outright lying to avoid legal charges, of course. Some drivers know that they made the mistake but they don't want to face serious ramifications when others got hurt or killed, so they lie.

That said, many others simply attempt to shift the blame. Their reasoning, even if they don't think it out, is emotional. They feel terrible about what happened. They regret what they did. They do not know how to deal with those feelings. Their instinct is to try to pass that on to another person, so they try to shift the blame. They try to find some excuse. No matter how outlandish it may seem, they just cannot deal with it in the stress of the moment.

All of these factors work together to make the time after a car accident rather chaotic. If the other driver blames you when they were at fault, make sure you know what legal steps to take.
