What are some important facts about traffic crashes?

When you're in an accident, your body takes a beating. Even if you can walk away from the accident initially, there is a likelihood that you could end up with serious injuries that develop over the next few hours or days.

There are many interesting facts about car accidents that you may not know. Here's a list of interesting facts that you may be interested to learn about:

Car accidents are a common cause of death

For those between 15 and 29, car accidents are the leading cause of death. Daily, there are around 3,287 deaths.

Four factors play a role in most crashes

These factors include being distracted, having an emotional or medical impairment, dealing with environmental factors or fatigue.

Around half of fatal crashes involve alcohol

Yes, up to 50 percent of fatal crashes involve drunk drivers (or at least those impaired by alcohol). It's easy to prevent these crashes by avoiding drinking and driving.

Males are more likely to die in crashes

The reality is that men are twice as likely to die in crashes as females. They're also more likely to cause accidents and to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Although these facts show the harsh reality of car accidents, everyone can play a role in keeping others safe. Avoid driving when intoxicated, obey traffic laws and signals and do what you can to avoid being distracted behind the wheel. Doing these things will help keep you safe and out of harm's way, so you don't have to worry about filing a claim after a crash.
