Nursing home abuse is one of the most terrible things to hear about. You put your loved ones a nursing home to make sure they get the care they need. Finding out that nurses mocked them or allowed them to go without assistance is devastating.
Sometimes, people work in medicine that should never do so. Take, for example, this news report about nurses and an aide who were caught laughing as a World War II vet struggled to breathe. The two nurses have been indicted for the death of the man after a video showed them laughing while he struggled to breath and sought help.
The news reports that the family of the man launched a lawsuit after seeing footage of the man trying to breathe and being unable to do so. He called for help at least six times before he passed out. The nurses discovered him at 5:28 a.m., but waited until close to an hour later to call for emergency help. The nurses did not administer aid, and they allegedly spent time laughing while being unable to get his oxygen machine to function.
The shocking thing about this case is that a nursing supervisor claimed she took over CPR and did so until paramedics arrived. The hidden camera video shows that she never did so.
The nursing home where this took place was alerted to the incident, but it took 10 months before the nurses were fired. Two of the nurses did not surrender their licenses until September 2016.
Nursing home abuse is no joke, and it’s important for people to get the best care possible. Your attorney can help you fight against negligence and abuse, so you can protect the people you love.
